The second round of the Chandler Challenge Track team series was run last Saturday night the 10th of October. This weeks race team consisted of Matthew Wynn, Michael Keetman, Conor McGrath and Steph Byrom, with Shane Crawford and Brooke Shepheard making their team debut. Steven Rynne was team coach with Aaron Urquhart team manager and Michael Freer team mechanic.
It was an event filled night, with Teams Pursiut, Keirins, Scratch Races, Eliminations, Derbys, Points Races and 1hr teams race to finish the evening. The night also saw a good number of riders entered into the support events with James and Brian racing for team KP.
Team KP warms up before the start of the first event
Once again the racing was strong. Our teams pursuit rode well and on schedule to finish in 4th place. The womens derby saw both Steph and Brooke finish strongly in their heats to qualify for a nail bighting final. Both ladies rode strong, in an exciting finish that saw Brooke collecting 4th place points for the team in her very first track race. Our enduro men, Micheal and Shane rode well in the 8km scratch race and Men’s combination race, however the event of the night was certainly the Teams race. This event saw all 4 of our male riders compete 2 at a time for 3 grueling 15 minute intervals with points were awarded for sprint laps. In a strong field team KPCC rode admirably to finish in overall 4th place.
Well done to all our riders on the night.
Womens Keirin heats up
The next round of the Chandler Challenge is on this Saturday the 17th of October, with racing from 4pm. Again we would encourage all our trackies to enter the support events and if you’re not a trackie, come along and have some fun as a spectator or volunteer to help for the night!
The club runs track training every Monday night from 6:30pm at the Chandler Velodrome. The Coached sessions are suitable for riders at all levels and all Members are welcome.
The team enjoyed some great support on the night from our cheer squad!
Brook evaluating her position in the bunch
Last Saturday night saw the first round of the Chandler Challenge Track team series. KPCC is very pleased to field a team in this series as it represents a fantastic opportunity for all of our club “trackies” to participate in some competitive track racing, be it as a Challenge Team member or in one of the many the support events.
Steph in a great position during the Womens Motor Paced Scratch Race
We were very fortunate that the rain cleared late afternoon for a perfect evening of racing. Our race team for Saturday consisted of Matthew Wynn, Michael Keetman, Ben Ellen, Conor McGrath and Steph Byrom. Conor also took the role of team coach with Aaron Urquhart team manager and Michael Freer team mechanic.
Team KP Camp
There was some strong completion on the night, in addition to Team KPCC teams from Repsych x2, Lifecycle x2, Ipswich and the Brisbane Hip Clinic represented. Racing was tough, however highlights of the night for our team included a 4th place in the Italian pursuit final, Stephs awesome effort to finish in the leading bunch in the womens scratch race, Conors and Bens effort in their respective derby heats, with Ben leading neck and neck right until final sprint in his heat. The final race of the night was a 60 lap points race (that’s 20 kilometres of track racing!) team KPCC was represented by Matt and Michael who both rode admirably. Whilst our team did not finish first on the night all of our riders thoroughly enjoyed their racing and did our club proud.
The next round of the Chandler Challenge is on Saturday the 10th of October. We would encourage all our trackies to enter the support events and if you’re not a trackie, come along and have some fun as a spectator or volunteer to help for the night!
