Kangaroo Point Cycling Club Inc. was founded in 1905 and is the oldest cycling club in Queensland.
The registered club colours are green, black and white. Club Kit can be purchased from the Club Shop.
While we are a racing club, riders of all abilities are most welcome. The Club presently caters for those members who only have time to ride/race once per week to the more serious State, Australian or World Champion. We have a very friendly social ride group as well as more serious and structured training rides and coached training sessions for those looking to race. All age groups are provided for with cyclists competing in categories from under 9 years to over 60 years of age.
Coaching
Club coaches are available to provide assistance and advice to members. These accredited coaches will assist new riders in areas such as correct positioning on the bike, training requirements, bike handling skills and riding in a bunch. Racing rules and terminology will also be explained. The Club has many experienced riders who are willing to take the less experienced cyclist on training rides, they know the safest roads to ride on.
Road Racing
Open road racing is held in South East Queensland on most Sundays throughout the season with riders from all clubs competing in these events.
Our Club Championships and a Century Ride (social ride) are also held during the season. A cycling calendar is available to all members to keep them informed of the race venues, times etc.
Club rides are organised on a regular basis which allows members to meet each other to train or simply enjoy a leisurely ride utilising different routes and distances.
Track Racing
Open track racing is held on various velodromes throughout South-East Queensland during the summer months. Club track training is held one evening per week between September and late June at the Chandler velodrome. Club Track Championships are usually planned for March.
Equipment
To begin road racing all that is required is a properly maintained road bike, clip-in shoes and a helmet which meets Australian Safety Standards. A track specific bike is required to ride on the velodrome at Chandler, which can be borrowed form the Club.
Club Meetings
Club Meetings are usually held on the last Tuesday of each month at the Carindale library meeting rooms, commencing at 6:30pm. All members are welcome and encouraged to attend and contribute to the many club events and initiatives planned throughout the year.
Why do we ride?
Taking up cycling can mean different things to different people. Cycling can be a leisure activity;
- For exercise and fitness
- To race
- To travel
- To enjoy the environment as well as preserve it
- To meet people with a shared passion
- To enjoy social activities and a whole lot more
For whatever reason, cycling can be a whole lot of fun and the Kangaroo Point Cycling Club has a number of social activities and club rides which promote this concept. In this sport many life-long friendships are made.
