The Len Hunt Memorial Shield is an annual award presented to a Member of the Kangaroo Point Cycling Club who has demonstrated significant improvement in their cycling ability during the year.
Immediate past recipients include Club Mentor Mark Currey, Matthew Payne (Team EDI Mining Erdinger Alkoholfrei), and Club Captain Cameron Hemming
The 2013 Len Hunt Memorial Shield recipient is Kieran Heinze.
Kieran joined the Club during 2012 and quickly established himself as a training buddy for many members of the Club who would 'rip your legs off' but make you enjoy it. After discovering that riding a bike full time was a great alternative to having to practice 3 sports all the time, Kieran dropped Triathlon and became a regular fixture on the Club's weekly rides.
Since winning his first Open Road Race; the Brisbane Blast in February 2013, Kieran has strengthened his training and moved from C Grade to A Grade and along the way taken 4th place in a combined B&C Grade at Grafton to Inverell and secured a Gold Medal at the Queensland State Time Trial Championships.
To end his strong year in 2013; Kieran was selected as part of the 2014 EDI Mining Erdinger Alkoholfrei racing team and will move to the semi-professional ranks next year with races including the Queensland Road Teams Series and the National Road Series in his sights.
The Kangaroo Point Cycling Club congratulates Kieran on his success and is proud to provide an environment that fosters the development of racing talent.
We're building something special at KPCC. Are you coming for the ride?
