12 rides with KPCC | A glorious Australia Day!

A report by Alix and Ashley Everton

A great Australia Day morning greeted 53 keen Kangaroo Point Cycling Club members and friends who all gathered to take part in the first of the #12rideswithKPCC series. With a great mix of riders from our regular racing cyclists to our Sunday social group, three groups set off for an epic day in the saddle.

In the first group there were attacks a plenty up the climb while the two other groups made their way up at their own pace, with more experienced riders encouraging and assisting first timers up the climb.

Riders commented on the amazing scenery of the climb, which was a great reminder of why we push our limits on our bikes!

After a quick stop at Nebo to refill water bottles, two groups continued on to tackle the steeper slopes of Mt Glorious, and regrouped at the top for a coffee and some friendly banter.

On the “descent” (which is the most uphill descent many of our riders have ever done!), Kirsty Broun put the young guns to the sword demonstrating the amazing bike handling skills of the former pro, and inspiring some of our more novice riders.

Riders were then treated to Australia Day Pavlova thanks to the kind ladies at MySweetopia, which accompanied breakfast, coffee and conversation until midday. It was another great day out with the club that has all riders looking forward to the next #12rideswithKPCC adventure.
