12 rides with KPCC | Ronde van Brookfield-gem-beek-berg

It was the next ride in our #12rideswithKPCC series this morning; the Ronde van Brookfield-gem-beek-berg and 40 very enthusiastic Members and Friends of the Club met at the Goodwill Bridge for a perfect morning of sunshine, cycling and good humour.

Its name, which flows off the tongue…means in rough Dutch translation; Tour of (Ronde van) Brookfield-dirt(gem)-creek(beek)-hill(berg) as the ride takes on the 3 fingers (dead-ends) of Brookfield, and involves small amounts of gravel / unkempt roads, several creek crossings and short steep hills.

The Ronde van Brookfield-gem-beek-berg is also on the eve of the famous Ronde van Vlaanderen race in Belgium – one of the Five Monuments of Cycling, which can be viewed live on SBS Sunday late-evening.

Competitors in this – definitely not a race – ride are encouraged to wear their favourite (best or worst) retro kit and bring along anything that looks like a classic bike, preferably an old-school steel Colnago personally crafted by Ernesto himself.

With plenty of fun challenging each other up the three fingers of Brookfield, it was CraigB who took ‘A-Grade’ honours and the famous RvB trophy for 2014. Best dressed for the ride was a draw between GregV and CameronH, both of whom went all out for the cause!

Tied for 'best dressed' on the day. "Classy and understated" is how they describe the look.

MySweetopia South Brisbane who often come up with a creative way to welcome us back to Southbank threw on a Belgium inspired breakfast of Belgian Chocolate Whoopies and after taking over the entire café we enjoyed a long morning of story telling.

We're not sure what a whoopsie pie is... but we enjoyed the whoopie pies!

As always- a big thank-you to Club Captain’s AshleyE and AlixE for putting together a great ride, and to our assisting Ride Leaders ClaireH and CameronH.
