This Saturday saw the third installment of the Chandler Challenge Track Team Series. Once again KPCC fielded a strong team, this week consisting of Brooke S, Steph B, Conor M, Matt W, Ben E and James S. Steven R was team coach and Aaron U team manager. The team was also well supported this week by a great group of club members. With a birthday celebration for Steph, it was a party atmosphere in the KP tent. Thanks to everyone, especially Irene, who supplied some delicious treats for the team.
The first event of the night, the Italian pursuit, saw a strong effort from team KPCC, who rode as a smooth group to finish in overall 5th place. James S represented KPCC in the mens 4000m individual pursuit and ran on a well measured schedule, catching fellow KPer and Resych team member Stephen R to finish in overall 3rd place for the event. The mens elimination saw a strong ride by Matt W and Conor M, unfortunately both were eliminated out of contention for line honours. The womens ‘B’ 4 lap derby final was an all KP affair with Team KPCC Brooke and Steph joined by Team Resych riders Hallie A and Sue C. Some good racing saw Hallie come through to take the win. The mens 5 lap derby, saw Ben E through to the final, however he was unable to secure a place in a fast placed final push for the line. In the Team Sprint KPCC was represented by Matt W, Conor M and Ben E. Once again it was a strong ride for an overall 5th place finish. The most anticipated event from the night was the mens 75 lap Madison. This is an event rarely ridden in Queensland and was therefore an opportunity for riders from all teams to practice their skills in this technically challenging race. Team KPCC was represented by Conor M and Matt W, who despite only two pre-event practices and a 15minute practice warm up immediately before the race, rode admirably to finish the event. Well done to all Team KPCC riders on the night.
The next round of the Chandler Challenge is on Saturday the 7th of November. We would encourage all our trackies to enter the support events and if you’re not a trackie, come along and have some fun as a spectator or volunteer to help for the night!
