Chandler Challenge Route 4 Report

Last Saturday night saw Team KP once again take to the Velodrome and cut some fast laps in CQ's final round of the 2015 Chandler Challenge.  On the race schedule for the evening included the Team Pursuit, Combination Race, Flying 200s, Keirins, Controlled Pace Scratch Race, Progressive Points Race & the gruelling Chandler Challenge Teams Race.  The team for this round was Brooke S, Michael P, Matt W, James S, Michael K, Team Manager Aaron U and Coached by Club Coach Steven R.

The night got underway with the Team Pursuit, with Team KP members Brook S, Michael P, James S & Michael K improving on their round two time by the better part of 2 seconds!  Next up, Brook S backed up straight away to ride a fantastic Combination Scratch / Elimination race, managing to claw back a good position until eventually being eliminated just outside the points.  Next up for both the Men and Women was the Flying 200m.  Both Brooke S and Matty W set very credible times, but unfortunately were out of the points.  It was then time for the Men's Combination Race which turned out to be a 12lap Scratch race followed by an Elimination, and given that three riders per team could compete, it was a very big field and a very long and hard race for James S, Matt W & Michael P, all of whom rode well.

Next up were the Men and Women's Keirins.  Once again, Brooke S used all her racing experience to snag 3rd place to make it through to the final.  Unfortunately Matt W and Michael P both missed out on the final after finishing outside the top three in their heats.  In the men's controlled pace scratch race, James S got very physical muscling in on the pace line on several occasions setting up some excellent positions for his team mate in the race Michael K.  In the end it was an incredibly fast two lap sprint with KP finishing just outside the points in 4th place.

In the Women's Keirin final, Brooke S once again rode well and secured 3rd place.  Brooke then backed up and rode consistently in the Progressive Points race to score 2nd place in that event.  The final event of the night was the hour long Teams race.  Michael P and James S made for a good combination with James netting the first sprint and placed in the second.  In the second session, Team KP managed to take three laps on the bunch as well as scoring some of the minor places in the intermediate sprints putting the Team into a very handy place on the leader board!  In the final session of the race, the bunch wasn't letting anyone go, but that didn't stop James S making it hard for everyone by launching several attacks from the top of the bank.  In the end, after all the points were tallied Team KP ended up equal second (third on count back) behind the ever dominating Ipswich Pride young guns.
